The year is 2327. Earth, once strong, is now trying to recover from the devastation of the Great War. During the battle, millions of lives were lost and cities were destroyed. Needing to rebuild, the government turns to other planets. One day, a starship arrives from the planet of Glecerus. The aliens trade technology and medicine for willing humans to become mates to their people.

Georgie Larson grew up in an orphanage on Earth, hoping and praying for a family. He volunteers to go to Glecerus looking for a mate among the alien race. But Georgie’s dreams are crushed when he learns that none of the Glecerian males bid on him during the auction.

Ambassador Rett T'Rul and his brother Lund are both interested in becoming Georgie’s mate. They fight dirty to claim the human, but soon realize that they aren’t only hurting each other, they’re hurting Georgie as well. In the end, the choice is given to Georgie. Which male will he choose?   Chapter One

Georgie Larson sat at the bar inside the Glecerian pleasure club, drowning his sorrows in a bottle of brightly colored alcohol. He swirled the purplish-blue liquid around inside the glass cylinder before taking another gulp. The sweet liquor splashed against his tongue, but the flavor changed, burning a trail of lava down his throat. Georgie flinched. He coughed and sputtered, but Georgie wouldn’t be deterred. He took another drink.

He wanted to forget. He wanted to pretend that the auction had never happened. The realization that none of the Glecerian males wanted to be mated to him broke Georgie’s heart, shattering the organ into a million little pieces within his chest. The pain was so overwhelming that Georgie didn’t think he would ever recover.

He still couldn’t remember the Glecerian ambassador’s exact words. The only thing he could clearly recall was the male telling him that he was going to the singles dormitory. From that point, a terrible ringing sound filled in his ears, drowning everything else out. He was catapulted back to his childhood at the orphanage on Earth and reminded once again that nobody wanted him.

Georgie shook his head, quickly changing his train of thought. He didn’t want to think about Earth or his current predicament.

A starship would be arriving tomorrow. And he would be taken to another planet. One called Sweshan. Even though Georgie knew what to expect from the water planet and the aliens that lived there, he still didn’t want to leave Glecerus. And he didn’t want to leave his new friends either, both of which had found mates among the Glecerian males. Georgie let out a pitiful little whimper and took another drink.

“What are you doing, little human?”

“Georgie,” he slurred to the bartender. “My name is Georgie.”

“Fine,” the Glecerian male growled. “What are you doing, Georgie?”

“I’m drinking,” he said, as if it weren’t obvious.

“Do you know that stuff will rot out your guts?”

  “That’s what I’m hoping.”

The male sighed. “Your life can’t possibly be that bad.”

  “You have no idea.”

The male leaned against the bar. “Try me.”

Georgie looked at the male. The Glecerian, like the rest of his kind, was beautiful. He had shoulder-length snow-white hair, white skin, and pitch-black eyes. He also had thick black markings that swirled in a pattern up both of his heavily muscled arms and across his sleek, bare chest, signifying his name and rank within the Glecerian community.

“I volunteered to come here to Glecerus. I wanted a mate. I wanted a family, but nobody…” He paused as tears filled his eyes. “Nobody…” Georgie cleared this throat, refusing to cry in front of the stranger. “None of the Glecerians chose me.”

The male frowned. “Even though we may be an advanced race, it seems that there are stupid males among us. I don’t know how anyone could look you o
ver. You’re a beautiful young man.”

  Georgie scoffed. “Yeah, right.”

He wasn’t beautiful like Sebastian or Aaron, the two humans he’d befriended inside the dormitory. Georgie was ordinary.

He tried to prove his worth again and again, but for some reason, he always came up short. Unlike the other humans, Georgie had read the manual given to him when he volunteered cover to cover. He had a positive attitude and wore a smile, regardless of how dire the situation seemed. But the auction had changed his outlook on the future. It had been a slap in the face. It proved that once again, he wasn’t good enough.

“It’s true,” the male insisted. “You’re beautiful.”

  “Do you have a mate?”

  He shook his head. “No.”

Georgie shot the male a disgruntled look. “Then why didn’t you bid on me?”

“I’m not looking for a mate, not anymore.”

  “Why not?” Georgie asked.

“Because the human I wanted was purchased by another.”

“Oh.” Georgie’s shoulders dropped. “I’m sorry.”

“There was nothing I could do. The male that won the auction was an ambassador. They’re given special privileges because they spend most of their time off planet.”

  “That doesn’t seem fair.”

“It’s not, but it is the law.”

“So, you do want a mate?”

The male nodded. “Yeah, but my mate would need to accept the fact that I own this club and I’m not giving it up.”

“You shouldn’t have to,” Georgie told him. “There’s nothing wrong with pleasure clubs.”

“You don’t think a human mate would get jealous that I’m surrounded by sex on a daily basis?”

“I guess that would depend on how active you are at the club. Do you participate in the…uh…” Georgie glanced around the room, taking in the hedonistic sights around him. “Do you participate in the activities here at the club?”

“I’ve been known to play a little bit, but if I had a mate, there would be no reason for me to seek pleasure elsewhere.”

“Well, then”—Georgie shrugged his shoulders—“I don’t think there would be a problem.”

“Do you want to stay on Glecerus, Georgie?”

Georgie nodded his head rapidly. “Yeah, I want to live here.”

The male pressed his forearms against the bar and leaned forward. He lowered his voice and said, “I think I may know how to solve both our problems.”

“Really?” Georgie leaned forward, pressing his chest against the edge of the bar. “How?”

The male winked. “You could become my mate.”

A slow smile spread across Georgie’s lips. He wasn’t opposed to the idea. In fact, he really liked the male’s suggestion. He could stay on Glecerus with his friends. He wouldn’t have to go to Sweshan.

  “Are you serious?”

“Yeah.” He nodded. “In fact, I could take you up to the treatment center right now and put my mark on you.”

  “Your mark,” Georgie murmured.

Georgie dropped his eyes down to the male’s chest and inspected his marks closely. He wondered what the thick black ink would look like scrawled on his own flesh. “And I would be able to stay?”

The male nodded. “You could stay.”

“And you want me to be your mate?” Georgie questioned, anxiously waiting to hear what the male had to say.

“I want you to be my mate,” he confirmed.

Georgie placed the bottle of alcohol on the bar top. “Yes.” He grinned at the male and nodded. “I’ll be your mate.”

The male held out his hand. “Lund T’Rul.”

He took Lund’s outstretched hand. “Georgie Larson.”

“Should we head over to the treatment center?”

Georgie nodded. He wanted to go before Lund changed his mind.

“Okay, let me make a quick call. I’ll meet you by the door.”

Georgie slipped off the bar stool and rose to his feet. He quickly adjusted his clothes, straightening out the black tank top and leather pants before walking toward the club entrance. Georgie moved through the crowd, weaving his way around Glecerian males and a few humans. When he reached the opaque glass door, it slid open, and he stepped outside.

Georgie took a deep breath. The marketplace, which was normally packed with people during daytime hours, had emptied out quite a bit, although there were still some people in the area. Some were sitting inside eateries while others walked past Georgie, heading in and out of the pleasure club.

He stood off to the side, waiting for Lund to join him. Now that he was alone, Georgie was feeling timid. He wasn’t scared of becoming the male’s mate but worried that Lund might decide that he didn’t want to be with him. Nervous energy ran through his system, and before long, Georgie started to feel sick to his stomach. It’s okay. Everything is going to be okay. He gave himself a little pep talk, hoping that the words might ease his discomfort.

Georgie kept an eye on the door, watching and waiting. After several minutes, Lund stepped over the threshold. He made eye contact with Georgie and smiled. The sick feeling in the pit of Georgie’s stomach instantly vanished, and his muscles relaxed.

Lund held out his hand, and Georgie took it, intertwining their fingers together. He stared down at their hands, Lund’s strong, white fingers wrapped around his smaller, tanned hand. Lund gave Georgie’s arm a gentle tug, and the two of them started walking toward the conveyor transport device.

Georgie stepped onto the moving pathway and held on to the railing with his right hand. The belt moved at a rapid pace. They moved from one conveyor to the next, making their way to the top floor where the treatment center and dormitory were located.

When they reached the treatment center, Lund pushed the heavy door open, and they went inside.

For the most part, the place was dark, except for one light source. In the far corner, Georgie could see a single light above a glass cylinder. It was similar to the ones he’d seen at the marketplace, except this one was wider. Georgie had read about this particular machine in the manual and knew what to expect. His body would be measured and, then, an exact replica of Lund’s mark would be burned under several layers of Georgie’s flesh. After that, they would officially be mates.

“So, this is it,” Georgie said.

“Come on.” Lund led Georgie to the back of the room.

As they got closer, Georgie realized that they weren’t alone. A Glecerian male, wearing a blue uniform, was standing beside the machine. “You owe me,” he said.

“And I always pay my debts,” Lund responded.

The male gave a subtle nod before turning his attention to Georgie and asking, “Do you have any questions before we begin?”

He had only one question. “Will it hurt?”

“There may be a little discomfort, but I will give you something for the pain.” The male pulled out a syringe from his pocket.

  Georgie nodded. “Okay.”

“I need you to remove your clothing and step inside the cylinder. This won’t take long.”

Georgie took off his clothes and handed the items to Lund. The male took them, hanging Georgie’s clothes over his muscular forearm. Once naked, Georgie stepped inside the cylinder. He turned around and faced forward. Georgie glanced toward Lund and saw an intense look in the male’s eyes. In all his years, Georgie had never been on the receiving end of such a look. Desire flooded his system, and he shivered involuntarily.

At that moment, the Glecerian male jabbed the syringe into Georgie’s thigh. He let out a yelp. “Ow.” Before he could say anything else, a numbing sensation worked its way through his body, leaving him a little dizzy.

The male slid the syringe back into his pocket. “You shouldn’t feel any pain.”

He stepped out, and the cylinder door closed, locking Georgie inside. A metal arm, holding a round dish, moved toward him. The object moved around his body, taking the necessary measurements for
the tattoo. It took several minutes, but when its job was complete, the arm moved back to its original position.

“The wrap is going to drop down, so don’t move.”

A thick piece of material dropped down, surrounding Georgie completely. The curtain blocked his view, cutting him off from Lund. A series of bright lights flashed on, and Georgie closed his eyes, pinching his eyelids shut. He stood frozen inside the cylinder, patiently waiting as the machine did its job. His skin prickled as the lights burned the design into his flesh, but there was no real pain.

“You’re doing great,” Lund told him, his voice encouraging.

When the bright lights shut off, Georgie opened his eyes. The screen rose back up, slowly revealing Lund. The door slid open, and Georgie stepped out of the cylinder. He looked down at the thick black marks on his skin, inspecting his new ink. The marks were incredible. They ran up his arms and over his shoulders. There were even a few swirls on Georgie’s chest.

Lund held out his arm, and Georgie smiled.

“Thanks.” He grasped the pants and pulled them on, covering his nudity. The buttery-soft material sat low on his hips. Georgie grabbed the tank top and clutched his fist around the material. He didn’t want to cover his marks. He wanted the whole planet of Glecerus to see that he was mated to Lund.

“Congratulations.” The male turned back toward the machine and powered it down.

“Thank you, my friend,” Lund said.

“Don’t mention it.” The male waved them away.

Lund took Georgie’s hand, pressing their palms together. He took the lead, guiding Georgie out of the treatment center.

“Are you ready to go home?”

Home. That single word filled Georgie’s heart, gluing the shattered organ back together. He had a home. He had a mate, and soon, he’d have a family.
